Research from the Faraone Lab at Acadia University has been highlighted in Entomology Today. The article reports that a fabric spray formulated with lemon eucalyptus oil (Citriodiol) effectively repels two medically important tick species—Ixodes scapularis and Dermacentor variabilis—when applied to common clothing fabrics. The study showed strong repellency comparable to DEET and sustained protection for several days across different fabric types.

This work combines laboratory bioassays and human trials to evaluate how natural-product–based repellents can help reduce tick bites and the risk of tick-borne diseases. The findings contribute to the development of safer, plant-derived alternatives for personal protection.
